Hyderabad: The prestigious Inter City Bus Terminal (ICBT) project by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) on Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode is likely to be delayed. Even though the tenders were finalised in May, the private agency which has taken over the project is yet to get bank guarantee in order to execute the project. The clueless HMDA officials are contemplating to re-invite tenders after seeking the approval from the State government by citing the delay as the reason.

According to HMDA, ICBT was to provide one stop integrated facilities to passengers, public and private bus operators and their staff and also cater to interstate bus services. The project would provide better infrastructure and modern facilities to commuters and bus operators. It is proposed to operate and maintain a per-determined quality standard, rendering cost effective and efficient service to all users.

The prestigious ICBT project which aimed to reduce the city traffic has been delayed and even if tenders are recalled, the project will not be completed in the stipulated time.

When asked about the same, a senior HMDA official told The Hans India that the tender had been finalised on May 31 and the department had asked the contractor to submit the financial closer and bank guarantee. He said the bankers did not come forward to give bank guarantee to the private agency and added that the project has already been delayed by more than eight weeks and cannot be delayed any further. He said the HMDA has sought the permission of government in order to re-invite tenders for ICBT.

HMDA Commissioner T Chiranjeevulu said the contractor had not submitted the bank guarantee and added that the department has sent a proposal to the government to take further action.

Meanwhile, ICBT project will have 1 lakh built up area for passenger terminal with 200 bus bays and platform for outstation buses, bus parking for 1,000 buses, 30 bus bays for city buses, two fuel filling stations including CNG, four vehicle service centres, office space for administrative purposes and office space for bus operators.

Besides this, ICBT would also comprise of budget hotels, restaurants, medical and emergency facilities with five beds and it would have police out post, fire protection and detection services and many more.
