Bhupalpally: It’s Warangal Urban Collector Amrapali Kata all the way on a super Sunday in the hillocks, where Pandavas believed to have spent some time as part of their vanavasam (exile) in the times of Mahabharata, seeking identity on State tourism map.

The very presence of Amrapali, the cynosure of all eyes since she took up the reins of Warangal Urban, would have given a huge promotion to the proposed tourism activity in Bhupalpally for which the district administration was trying tooth and nail these days, but by participating in the rock climbing she made it even more special.

Amrapali who is well-known for her dynamism in extracurricular activities besides being the guiding force in the administration not only surprised many of her peers but also gave the youngsters, who flocked the Pandavulagutta hillocks, a run for their money as she coasted the 45-foot rock with utmost ease.

What surprises is that the climbing skills she had shown was like a professional, this despite she has no previous rock climbing experience.A few weeks ago, she ventured out in the thickets of Bayyaram in Mahabubabad district along with her counterpart Preeti Meena. The 12-km hiking then apparently reflected both the collectors’ courage and stamina.

It’s said that the security personnel got tired then but not both the collectors. This time around, she found a companion in Warangal Urban DFO Arpana Syal and made the day of the adventure sport enthusiasts coming across from neighbouring districts along with the State capital Hyderabad.

Amrapali said that the location is fantastic and has potential to become a haven for adventure sports besides being a tourism spot, if developed. Though there was a plan to introduce rock climbing in Warangal city, Pandavulagutta makes a perfect location for the adventure sports, she said.

Later, Bhupalpally DFO T Ravi Kiran also participated in the rock climbing apart from 85 others, majority of them students.
It may be noted here that Pandavulagutta hillocks are located near Tirumalagiri village under Regonda mandal in Bhupalpally district, 50 km northeast of Warangal, have rock paintings of pre-historic age to medieval times.
