Commuters, especially working women who shuttle by public transport, have been suffering from untold problems due to less frequency of city RTC buses in several stretches across the city. The commuters claim that the problems have aggravated during monsoon as there are several busstops that lack shelters and late night travel has become a nightmare.

Many women complain that the RTC runs very few buses after 9 pm and the last bus is at 10 pm. Citizens commuting from Bowenpally to Paradise, Diamond Point to BHEL, Alwal to Charminar, Secunderabad to Film Nagar, Tarnaka to ECIL, Dilsukhnagar to Hayathnagar and other areas complain about the less frequency of buses. They even complain that there is no direct connectivity to several areas and there is no scope for interchanging as the buses reach the destination late due to heavy traffic jam on working days. Citizens allege that buses do not arrive as per the time mentioned in electronic or manual displays.
K Aruna, who travels regularly in city RTC buses, said that there was only one direct bus from Alwal to Secretariat. She said it had become a nightmare to women, particularly on a rainy day, to wait in the shelterless bus stops. She said RTC had stopped its services after 10 pm for the past two months and very few buses after 9 pm. “I request RTC officials not only to increase the frequency of buses but also their number,” she said.
P Madhuri, who works as human resource manager for a private firm said that there was no proper bus facility for those who travelling from Bowenpally to Paradise. She said that from 12:30 pm to 2 pm it was very difficult to find buses in this area and they had to wait for more than 20 minutes to get a bus.
S Kiran Babu, who takes RTC bus from Secunderabad to Film Nagar said that the bus facility in this route was not frequent. He said people had to wait for more than half an hour or had to opt for other buses which took alternative routes to reach his destination. He requested the RTC officials to increase the frequency of buses in the route so that it would help thousands of commuters to reach their destination on time.
Admitting that the frequency of buses was less during monsoon,a senior TSRTC official said that it was because the buses got stuck in traffic jam.
