Hyderabad: The city libraries, which were battling basic infrastructure problems along with bad toilet facilities, now face electricity woes. The Grade III libraries turned bad to worse with no electricity facilities.

According to City Central Library official, there are 76 Grade III libraries across the city andmost of the libraries possess damaged books and poor infrastructure. Usually the libraries are open from 8 am to 8 pm, butdue to lack of power supply the citizens are forced to visit the libraries only between 8 am to 11 am, the official added.

LIC colony library in-charge B Pravalika said, “When it rains we cannot enter the library as the roof leaks due to which we shut down the library. There is no power supply and no toilet in our library. The library is situated in a government owned building and there is enough space to build a new one.

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) officials inspected the building and assured to construct a new building but, two months have passed and there has been no progress in the work." Officials from City Central Library said, “Major problems faced in Grade III libraries is insufficient space, badly maintained toilets and lack of electricity.

We are yet to receive an answer from GHMC pertaining to release of funds in order to clear the pending electricity dues.”
V Ashok SE Electrical said, “We are not supposed to provide power supply to the libraries until they clear the dues. We did not receive any complaint from library authorities regarding the disconnection."
