Hyderabad: Minister for IT, Municipal Administration and Urban Development K T Rama Rao on Wednesday said that Rs 20,146 crore would be spent for upgrading Hyderabad into a global city. He participated in a review meeting with the officials concerned here and held discussions with them on the action plan to turn the city into a global city by giving a facelift through roads, facilities, infrastructure, lights, water supply, expansion of nalas, development and beautification of Musi River

The MA&UD Minister said that Rs 20,146 crore were needed for all-round development of the city and funds would be spent through the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB), GHMC and Musi Development Corporation.

The Minister was holding discussions with banks and financial institutions to mobilise the necessary funds for the mega project. He said that Rs 6700 crore were needed for roads development, Rs 2,926 crore for water supply and Mission Bhagiratha, Rs 1,665 crore for Musi development, Rs 400 crore for LED lighting, Rs 230 crore for nalas expansion, Rs 8,225 crore for the double bedroom scheme.

In addition to this, Rs 7,000 crore needed additionally to construct a reservoir for providing drinking waters to the city, he said. Related works worth Rs 10,000 crore have already been started and coordination among the departments is on.

KTR said that Hyderabad, which was the financial hub of Telangana and heart for the government, needs to be developed as a global city with improved facilities and infrastructure which needs Rs 20,000 crore. "For this we need to implement short term and long term plans and involve all the departments to achieve the goal", he said.

KTR said that white topping would be taken for 350 km long roads, SRDP works began at several places, Rs 100 crore DPRs were ready and Rs 2,500 crore detail project reports (DPRs) were in the pipeline and Rs 8,225 crore would be spent for the double bedroom scheme for which works began at 109 places in the city, he said. "A big reservoir will be built at Keshavapuram with Rs 7,000 crore and LED bulbs will be fixed by Deepavali festival, KTR said.
