Hyderabad: The 21st meeting of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council, composed of States' Finance Ministers and headed by Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, is slated to be held in Hyderabad on Saturday.

During the meeting, the State government will highlight the demands that it made earlier on reduction of tax slabs on certain products and services, State principal secretary (revenue) Somesh Kumar said. All the members (Finance Ministers of respective States) are going to raise their issues,” Kumar said.

The State government will stress the pending demands including reduction of GST on infrastructure projects from 12 per cent to 5 per cent.

The government has been demanding the centre to reduce GST burden on the projects like construction of irrigation projects, Mission Bhagiratha and road development works. While the State government demanded to reduce GST on the projects to 5 per cent from 18 per cent, the centre has brought it down to 12 per cent only.

The government also strongly objected levying 12 per cent GST on Granite and Marble raw blocks and 28 per cent GST on finished products. The government argued that such high rates would be detrimental to the growth of granite and marble industry.
