Hyderabad: Telangana Rythu Sanskhema Samithi president Justice B Chandra Kumar on Monday said GO 39 was unconstitutional and undemocratic. He demanded that the government withdraw the order and added that they would go to the court if it fails to withdraw the GO.

Addressing a press conference here, Justice Chandra Kumar said the selection of members for farmers’ societies should not have been done by the Ministers. There are 99 per cent chances that the Minister’s followers would be favoured.

“There is a system in the country where the legislature formulates polices and frames laws and assigns works to the executive but since the Ministers and MLAs are choosing members of the committee, there is every possibility that they will choose their own people,” he said.

Justice Chandra Kumar demanded that the government withdraw the GO since it was politically motivated. The GO encroaches upon the powers of executive, he and added that the Samithi would educate the people about the ill-effects of the government order and approach the court if necessary.

Samithi vice president N Srinivas Yadav alleged that the GO would bring back the Patel Patwari system in Telangana. He alleged that the government was trying to benefit the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) workers in the name of the GO.

As per the rules, officials like Tahsildars, Collectors and other revenue officials would check the records but with the new GO, the Minister would approve the land record based on the suggestions of the committee, which would have people from the ruling party. Because of this new GO, the Zamindars would come into picture and take the possession of land.

He said the people should go to High Court or Supreme Court against the GO. He said there are some lands which are donated to the poor and the ownership of which is yet to be transferred. These lands may be taken away by the committee, he said.
