Secunderabad: The State government would be committing a big mistake if it goes ahead with construction of new Secretariat and Assembly buildings on Bison Polo grounds. In fact, the government has no right to waste public money to satisfy the whims and fancies or personal beliefs of one individual, said former DGP M V Bhaskar Rao. Bhaskar Rao filed a PIL in the High Court opposing the move.

He raised several issues. Talking to The Hans India, construction of Secretariat, Assembly, Legislative Council and a Kalabhavan would deprive lung space for 10 lakh people in Secunderabad. He said as far as government is concerned there can be no Vaastu issue. Such things should be confined to one’s own house. If still any Chief Minister feels that there are some issues, he can at the most make changes in his chambers, but has no right to waste public money like this.

That apart, he said the new power centre will result in heavy influx of visitors, hundreds of security men, police, Chief Minister’s security, and other vehicles. It will lead to traffic chaos and jams. On one hand the government talks of making twin cities a global city and decongest it and on the other it wants to create new problems. “It is nothing but a political gimmick and not a need-based decision.”

Already people living in peripheral areas of the Army Ordnance Corps Centre are facing hardships as several civilian roads are closed. With Metro services to be launched soon and Jubilee bus station in the vicinity, the life of common man would become miserable, he added.
