Secunderabad: Incessant rains on Wednesday took a toll on Nagaram and Rampally area, inundating several low-lying colonies. Due to lack of proper planning, whenever there is heavy rain, water from Nagaram and Dammaiguda lakes gushes into residential colonies.

Residents of Paramount Residency, with 260 flats in Shilpa Nagar layout, had a torrid time as water rose to the level of 2 feet, flooding the premises. Rajesh, secretary of the Apartmen,t said, “Nala water along with upstream lake water is entering into the premises at a full force. There is no culvert to drain the water. Repeated requests to the village panchayat have fallen on deaf ears.”

Another resident said, to make things worse, the panchayat officials opened the gate on the northern side of the society allowing more flood water. Now the entire premises is flooded with dirty water and water level is rising slowly.

Locals say that there is danger that the building may collapse. The village secretary Venkat Reddy suggested residents to evacuate. There are close to 160 families residing in the complex. As a precautionary measure, the residents shut the power and are literally living in fear.
