Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has decided to bring in alternative online attendance system for employees and workers. The civic body has been successfully implementing the biometric attendance system and yielded good results. However, several biometric machines are unable to identify the finger prints of workers whose age is more than 50.

According to a senior GHMC official, the biometric attendance system has saved GHMC of Rs 3 crore per month by curbing several irregularities. However, the biometric machines have been unable detect the finger prints of some of the employees and workers.

The civic authorities have been registering their attendance manually. The official said manual system has been leaking the GHMC's revenue and ground level staff are indulging in irregularities by registering fake attendance.

When asked about this, a senior GHMC official told The Hans India that in order to curb the malpractices at the ground level, the civic body has decided to develop an alternative online attendance system. The official said civic body would provide 30 portable machines to Assistant Medical Officer of Health (AMOHs), where they take the picture and digital signatures of the workers to make the entries online.

The GHMC official also said that the salary details of all workers will be updated through the potable machines. The online system will pay accurate salaries to the workers based on the working hours, absents and deducting EPF.

The GHMC official claimed primary aim of developing alternative online system is to facilitate workers and save them from cheating by the middleman. Effective implementation of alternative online system will further save Rs one crore per month to the corporation.
