All set for distribution of Bathukamma sarees
The State government is all set to launch the distribution of ‘Bathukamma’ sarees free of cost to more than one crore women from Monday. All the women holding white ration cards are eligible to avail the benefit on the eve of Dasara and Telangana State festival Bathukamma this month.
Hyderabad: The State government is all set to launch the distribution of ‘Bathukamma’ sarees free of cost to more than one crore women from Monday. All the women holding white ration cards are eligible to avail the benefit on the eve of Dasara and Telangana State festival Bathukamma this month.
All the required material is being procured from the weaving community in the State. The government spent Rs 222 crore to procure 1,04,57, 610 sarees under the sari distribution scheme.
More than 500 designs were selected for the weaving of the sarees. The women top officials in the Chief Minister’s Office played a key role in the selection of designs and colours to be used in making the sarees.
The objective of the distribution of sarees is to give a much-needed fillip to the suffering handloom weavers and generate goodwill to the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) among people on the completion of three year rule in the new State of Telangana.
Industry and Textiles Minister K T Rama Rao said weavers of Siricilla, which incidentally happens to be the Minister’s home constituency, made significant efforts in reaching the targets set for sari production in a scheduled time.
The distribution of sarees would be completed in three days time.
All the fair shop owners have been asked to take up campaign on sari distribution and make it success. Special counters would be opened at fair shops in rural and urban areas for the distribution. All the required stocks were already transported to the district headquarters.
