Hyderabad: Vice-President MVenkaiah Naidu, in the presence of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao,honoured acclaimed film-maker SS Rajamouli with the prestigious AkkineniNageswarRao (ANR) National Award for his contribution to the Telugu film industry and inspiring a new generation of film-makers, at a function here on Sunday.

Highlights:

• CM lauds ANR as doyen of Telugu film industry
• Rajamouli becomes tenth recipient of the award, which carries a memento, citation & cash prize
• Students of Annapurna International School of Film & Media (AISFM), along with their parents, attend function
• 95 AISFM students were presented degrees

VenkaiahNaidu described Rajamouli as "one of the most creative, innovative and inspiring film-makers. You deserve the award because you are Baahubali”. The Vice-President wished him many more accolades. “Your film has all elements that makes you feel happy and proud of Indian cinema”. He added that "felicitation is to provide inspiration and to inspire people. It is a memorable moment for me to present the evergreen ANR award.”

Rajamouliis thetenth recipient of the award, which carries a memento, a citation and a cash prize.ANR’s son Nagarjuna, along with the entire Akkineni Family, numerous illustrious film industry persons and students of the Annapurna International School of Film & Media (AISFM),along with their parents, attendedthe function, where 95 AISFM studentswere presented degrees.

Speaking about legendary ANR, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao said,`the doyen of Telugu film industry had left a lasting impression onmany generations, as he immortalised films across social, romantic and mythological genre.’ He rendered lyrics fromANR films and praised Rajamouli. KCR said he enjoyed watching ‘Bahubali’ first in Hindi and in Telugu, the second time.

The CM stated that ANR symbolised Telugu cinema in its entirety, laid the foundation for development of Telugu film industry in the State and dedicated his life not only to films but also building theindustry’s eco-system by creating one of the finest institutes, AISFM, in the country.

In his acceptance address,Rajamouli said "though I do not feel deserving for this exemplary award, I feel it gives you power and wings to fly. It is a huge burden. It certainly inspires me to work harder. I will certainly continue to try to be worthy of the award started by great ANR Garu.”

Nagarjuna laudedRajamouli’s contribution to expanding the Telugu film industry’s global reach with universally appealing content and inspiring new film-makers to breakcreative boundaries. You have made Dr. Akkineni Nageswara Rao proud of "our" choice of the awardee.
