Secunderabad: The residents living in the close vicinity of Trimulgherry Lake are breathing a sigh of relief after the officials of Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) inspected the lake and agreed to take up the repair works and connect the pipes to the other end of the culvert in the lake.

Speaking to The Hans India, Venkatramana, resident of Malani Enclave, who has been a leading votary of lake rejuvenation said, “It was after much persuasion, 50 complaints to the Pollution Control Board and MPs intervention that the inspection was possible. Now there is hope.” He also added that the SCB needed to act fast as the city received copious rainfall in September.

In the heavy rains that lashed the city last week, water gushed into the arterial roads and the Trimulgherry playground was flooded. Bhagyashree, SCB ward member, along with officials conducted a joint survey with SCB engineer Balakrishna and proposed to develop a ring sewer line to divert waste from the lake.

In the past, the SCB constructed drainage pipeline, culverts and connected into the lake but failed to connect them to the other end of the culvert. The affected colonies are Malani Enclave, Surya Enclave, Sainagar Colony, Indian Airlines Colony, Padmanabha Colony among others.

For long, the SCB said the lake and the land around it was under the Department of Tourism but after much persuasion, the SCB members, after an inspection, agreed that there was a need to clean the lake and connect the pipes to the other end of the culvert. Malkajgiri MP Malla Reddy also responded on the issue.
