New Delhi: Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Minister Jupally Krishna Rao, here on Thursday, met Secretary of the Union Panchayat Raj Ministry Amarjeeth Singha, and sought release Rs 250 crore dues pending under the MGNREGS scheme.

Payments to daily wage labourers was being held up due to the delay in releasing dues from the Centre, the Minister explained.

He also reminded him that another instalment of Rs 500 crore was also due towards the material component, and added that the State government had released Rs 150 crore more than the Centre in this regard.

He told the Secretary that the State government had spent money for the 10.60 crore days of work during the last financial year. This year, it had created 1.5 crore workdays in addition to its target and sought funds for at least four crore workdays more.

The Minister later told the media that he had met Additional Secretary Nagesh Singh too to explain to him the measures adopted by the State government for the welfare of rural workforce. There was no lapse of funds due to these measures, he said.

Special Representative of Telangana Government in Delhi Ramachandru Tejawath, Principal Secretary of Panchayat Raj, Vikas Raj and Rural Development Commissioner Neetu Prasad accompanied the Minister.
