Hyderabad: The Governor E S L Narasimhan on Thursday opined that it is the duty of every resident to ensure the source segregation of waste into dry and wet waste.

Speaking at the Community Engagement Programme for source segregation of waste, organised by Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) at Samriddhi Raj Bhavan Staff Quarters at Khairatabad, the Governor said the staff quarters should become a model for other colonies in source segregation of waste and cleanliness of colony premises. He said the waste generated in the staff quarters will be utilised for composting and the manure will be utilised for the maintenance of lawns and gardens in Raj Bhavan campus.

Waste when segregated can be beneficial and useful and on the contrary un-segregated waste will be of no use and will lead to environmental disaster, he added. On the occasion, GHMC officials explained the benefits of source segregation of waste and organised an awareness programme on how to segregate dry waste, wet waste and hazardous waste.

They also distributed bins and bags to the residents of Raj Bhavan staff quarters. Khairatabad MLA Chintala Ramachandra Reddy, Corporator P Vijaya Reddy, Principal Secretary to Governor Harpreet Singh, GHMC Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy participated in the programme.
