10 pc RTC buses not fit to run on Hyderabad roads
About 10 per cent of Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) buses are deemed not fit to run on city roads and have been diverted to rural areas. The buses are said to be more than ten years old.
Hyderabad: About 10 per cent of Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) buses are deemed not fit to run on city roads and have been diverted to rural areas. The buses are said to be more than ten years old.
Sources said that generally the average life of buses is six to seven lakh kilometre and after the buses exceed this level they are diverted to rural areas and used as Palle Velugu (run in rural areas and areas close to the outskirts of the city).
A RTC official said in the year 2007, the RTC had hired 76 city ordinary private hire buses and since the contract has concluded, the TSRTC officials have decided to replace these 76 private hire buses with new buses by December 2017. He said out of the 76 new private hire buses 30 buses will be flagged off on September 30, 2017.
He also added that these 76 private hire buses will run in four divisions including, Hayathnagar, Kushaiguda, Secunderabad and Kachiguda.
TSRTC Greater Hyderabad zone Executive Director A Purushottam said the life span of RTC buses is 15 years, around 480 RTC buses have completed a life span of 10 years and around 2,000 are under the span of 6-7 years.
He said by March 2018 nearly 185 buses will complete 15 years and the department has also sent the proposal for the procurement of 185 new buses in city. He said that eight years ago the department had 3,600 buses and now it has 3,800 buses.
