Hyderabad: In the people’s ballot conducted by Congress senior leader V Hanumantha Rao, regarding the construction of new Secretariat at Bison Polo Grounds, over 97 per cent participants opposed the decision.

Of 18,460 people who participated, as many as 17,892 (97.13%) opposed the new Secretariat and 387 people favoured the State Government's decision. While 142 respondents remained neutral, 39 votes were rejected as the respondents wrote slogans against the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government.

Speaking to media persons after counting of votes on Wednesday, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President N Uttam Kumar Reddy said people have opposed the TRS government's proposal as it was nothing but waste of public money. He said present Secretariat was well equipped and sufficient to run the government.

Most of the buildings in the present secretariat complex were less than 10-years-old. He said the Congress would take the agitation against new Secretariat to all the districts to pressurise the State government to withdraw its decision.
