The premises of the fever hospital is bursting at the seams in the morning hours. The patients are finding it difficult even to find place to stand. The number of outpatients at the hospital exceeded 800 on Friday.

During the monsoon, the number of outpatients visiting the hospital goes up. The doctors 350-bed hospital have found it difficult to cope with the rush of outpatients. A doctor said, “We see at least 10-12 patients suffering from viral fever every day during the last few days, especially after the rains started. Some have dengue like symptoms. Anywhere between 15-20 patients are admitted to hospital each day.

While listing out the precautionary measures to be taken, a doctor said that schools need to ensure that there is no breeding ground for mosquitoes. Households too should take this precautionary step. Fever hospital is the nodal centre for seasonal ailments and not just for people from the Twin Cities but also from nearby districts. It may be noted that two years ago, during the rainy season the number of outpatients crossed 1,500 mark for a week.

Authorities and the doctors in the hospital are taking steps to tackle the situation if the number of outpatients increase this time too. A house surgeon at Fever Hospital said the cold weather conditions could cause discomfort and cough. Many patients who come to the hospital complain of upper respiratory tract infections.

Rihana, a patient from Bagh Amberpet, said, “Three from our family have been suffering from viral fever and our family has been coming to the hospital for the last few days.” Doctors say that in many instances, patients do not continue medicines and complete the course which could be a major problem and we have repeat patients.”
