Hyderabad: Taking the total tally of sectorial policies to 10, Telangana government on Tuesday announced two more initiatives for Internet of Things (IoT) and e-Waste management.

The state government aims to implement technology applications for making a better society with economic development and zero-waste discharge in the industry. Telangana government anticipates investments to the tune of Rs10,000 crore and 50,000 employment opportunities in next five years in IoT space.

Telangana Industry and IT Minister KT Rama Rao has announced two policy initiatives at an event ‘i-Telangana 2017’ with a theme of ‘Embracing Technology, Transforming Telangana,’ organised by FICCI in association with Telangana ICT Department here.

KTR said the government’s focus as part of IoT policy would be on medical, smart city solutions, health, logistics and agriculture technology spaces. Considering the ever-changing requirements of the industry, the state government will implement the IoT technology for the society and the business. The state government has given in-principle approval on choosing Hyderabad, Warangal and Sircilla districts for pilot project under IoT policy.

“The state government will create five zones for deploying proof of concepts in the IoT products. Towards this, we’ll implement a 5-pronged approach. The government will develop infrastructure to promote IoT, promote manufacturing, procurement of IoT-based solutions, provide support to startups in raising capital and create a ready-to-employ talent pool. We’ll also forge partnerships to develop know-how for IoT project implementation.”

Another new policy on e-waste focuses on reducing the discharge of unused electronic products. The e-waste generation in India is rising at an alarming annual rate of 25 per cent. With 25,000 MT annually, Hyderabad is the sixth largest e-waste generator in the country.

Allaying fears about air and water pollution, KTR assured that the new pharma city, which is coming up 19,333 acres near Hyderabad, will generate over four lakh direct and indirect jobs. “We have almost completed the background work on Hyderabad Pharma City and it’ll be zero liquid discharge (ZLD) as the government will take care of common effluent treatment plant.

The Hyderabad Pharma City project will be developed in a phased manner,” adds KTR. Telangana government has signed five Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs), including three agreements on e-waste management and two pertaining to IoT.
