New Delhi: Telangana entered into various MoUs worth Rs 6,000 crore with the Dhakshhin Agropolis in the food processing sector. The company is establishing an integrated food and agri-processing zone in 300 acres at Zaheerabad.

Telangana IT and Industries Minister K T Rama Rao, who met representatives of several leading food processing and agri companies here on Friday during the World Food India-2017 meet, told the media that the mega food zone would lead to creation of 5,000 direct jobs out of which 1,000 would go to women.

The company would be investing Rs 2,500 crore on basic infrastructure in the food processing units and the rest on farmer producers’ organization. The latter would train farmers in the latest techniques and modernization of agricultural practices, he said.

KTR said this would benefit 25,000 farmers in the state. Maize, sugarcane and paddy would be the focus crops here, he said adding those would be targeted for food processing later. The investment would also give a boost to sheep rearing and aqua culture in the State.

The Germany Agri Business Alliance and the Telangana Food Processing Society also entered into an MoU for technology transfer to the latter in the field of agriculture, the minister added. Agri-market research and modern yield methods would also get a boost.

KTR said his government is expecting to sign MoUs worth Rs 7,500 crore with 10 more companies on Saturday. He congratulated the Food Processing Ministry for bringing all stakeholders in the industry together at Delhi with this three-day international meet as it would give a boost to the industry and Make in India programme in the country.

The state government would release its food processing policy on Saturday on the occasion of Telangana Day at the event.
