Hyderabad: Congress members on Monday staged a walkout from the House to protest Speaker’s decision to disallow Adjournment motion on classification of Schedule Castes. After the Question Hour, when the Speaker said that he was not allowing the Adjournment motion, the Leader of Opposition K Jana Reddy said that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao had earlier promised on the floor of the House that he would take an all-party delegation to the Centre, demanding classification of Scheduled Castes. He sought a statement from the Chief Minister on taking the all-party delegation to the Prime Minister.

BJPLP leader G Kishan Reddy said if a delegation was taken to the Centre, the process could have gained momentum. TDP member Sandra Venkata Veeraiah said M Venkaiah Naidu when he was the Union Minister had strived for the classification of the Scheduled Castes. Now, Venkaiah Naidu was Vice-President and the issue should be taken to the notice of the Prime Minister by taking an all-party delegation to Delhi.

The MIM leader Akbaruddin Owaisi demanded that the government take up 12 per cent reservation for Muslims along with the Scheduled Castes classification with the Prime Minister. Finance Minister Eatala Rajender recalled that Chief Minister KCR had ensured that a resolution was passed, demanding classification of Scheduled Castes before the issue was raised by anyone. The Congress party, which was in power for 10 years, had failed to take up the issue and now it had staged a walkout. It shows their commitment on the issue, he said.

Rajender said that the Chief Minister KCR and Deputy Chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari had brought this to the notice of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Prime Minister had also given appointment to an all-party delegation, but the appointment was cancelled in the last minute. He suggested that the BJP members take up the issue with their party leaders, so that a solution can be found speedily. He also suggested that TDP leader Veeraiah advise his party government in Andhra Pradesh to seek classification of Scheduled Castes.

He said that the government would take up the issue with the Prime Minister by taking his appointment and also added that the 12 per cent Muslim reservation issued would also be included in the representation.
