KCR calls for a marathon meeting with BC representatives today to finetune proposal
In a shrewd political move, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao is preparing to create a BC sub-plan to enlist the support of BCs who are considered backbone of Telugu Desam Party.
Hyderabad: In a shrewd political move, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao is preparing to create a BC sub-plan to enlist the support of BCs who are considered backbone of Telugu Desam Party.
Though the yellow party has more or less been wiped out from the face of Telangana state, the Chief Minister appears to be keen that even its vestiges be removed so that there would be no scope for any green-shoots in future. In Telangana state, BCs constitute 52 per cent of the total population and any measure to benefit them would be politically advantageous to the ruling party.
The BC sub-plan is on the lines of the one existing for SCs and STs. Chandrasekhar Rao, who has called a meeting of representatives of BCs on Sunday, is expected to fine-tune the proposal after consulting with them.
The Chief Minister is keen that the BC sub-plan should have statutory backing. Finance and BC welfare departments are preparing proposals for BC sub-plan to be introduced from the next financial year. According to senior officials, KCR has already discussed the issues relating to financial implications for the state budget after the implementation of BC sub-plan. Legal formalities and generation of funds for the Most Backward Class (MBC) Corporation would also be discussed. More than 20 existing BC corporations have been brought under the purview of MBC corporation.
Officials said that all these issues would be sorted out in the day-long meeting to be organised at the CM’s camp office Pragathi Bhavan. Besides, allocation of separate budget for each BC community, promotion of entrepreneurship among backward classes and special financial packages to certain communities like Yadavs and Gouds, weavers and fishermen would be discussed in the marathon meeting.
State Secretary to BC Welfare Department G Asok Kumar has been asked to prepare a detailed report on the execution of each programme meant for BC welfare and development and the expenditure incurred each year since the formation of Telangana in 2014.
Officials said that based on the report the Chief Minister will prepare BC action plan which includes introduction of new schemes, if required, for the development of every community in the BC sections. The government has already introduced sheep distribution scheme for Yadav community, aqua farming to strengthen fishermen community and modern saloon and hi-tech dhobhi ghats for Nayi Brahmin and washermen communities.
The proposal to distribute cattle to the poor is also under consideration. The government is likely to finalise special schemes for artisans, weavers and other most backward communities in the meeting.
