Hyderabad: Professor Jayashankar Telangana Agriculture University (PJTSAU) Vice-Chancellor Dr V Praveen Rao said the first convocation of the university will be held on December 13. Addressing the media here on Monday, Rao said the Indian Council for Agriculture Research (ICAR) Director General Dr Trilochan Mohapatra will be the chief guest, while AP and TS States Governor and Chancellor of the University ESL Narasimhan will address the students during the convocation.
He said the university which had come into existence three years ago had completed the process of getting all necessary statutory requirements and accreditations from the institutions like ICAR and University Grants Commission (UGC) to hold its first convocation ceremony for the years 2014-15 and 2015-16 academic years.
He informed a total of 319 candidates from the post-graduate and PhD have been admitted for the first convocation. Of this, about 207 candidates will be presented the degrees in person and the remaining in absentia. Similarly, out of 970 candidates from the undergraduate courses admitted for the first convocation, about 558 will be presented the degrees in person and the remaining in absentia. That apart, gold and silver medals will be presented to the toppers in the Agriculture, Agriculture Technology and Home Science streams, he added.
“We have already implemented the 5th Deans Committee recommendations with the new curriculum. As per the new curricula, a student will undergo an Experiential Learning Programme (ELP), in which they will gain practical experience by spending four months each with farmers and agriculture companies, besides taking up any one of the entrepreneur activates like seed production, micro-irrigation and the like.
This will give them an edge not only as job seekers but also as job givers on completion of their education,” the V-C added.Informing that varsity has also secured top rankings in its research activities standing third in the country and first in the South India, Rao added that the information technology application in the university was a step forward and now students and staff could connect and present in live-online classrooms of any university in the world and interact with the faculty.
“Besides making the entire university campus Wi-Fi, the university is able to provide articles published in any part of the world in just 10 minutes. In addition to this, the university is also recruiting adjunct faculty, inviting expert faculty from the other countries to stay and teach the students. Further from June 2018, the admissions into all PG courses will be held based on the national entrance test,” he said.
Rao further added that university was also taking up steps to achieve self-sufficiency and sustainability. Varsity Registrar Dr S Sudheer Kumar and other senior officials attended the press meet.
