Two incidents of child marriage took place at Mahabubabad district headquarters. According to the officials, the marriages of two minor girls aged 15 and 16 respectively were arranged by their family members at Sundaraiah Nagar and Vaddera Colony at Mahabubabad town on Thursday.

On learning about the marriages, the police, revenue, ICDS and Childline 1098 officials visited the places. The district child protection officer S Praveen Kumar, police sub-inspector Kamalakar, revenue inspector J Sudhakar, Childline team members N Aruna, B Umarani, K Venkatesh Goud and D Anil interacted with the family members enquiring about the age of the girls.

On finding that the girls were minors, the officials counselled their parents on the evil impact of child marriages and told them to stop performing the marriage rituals. The parents and family members initially objected to the interference but later obliged.
