Warangal: Left parties staged a protest and strongly condemned the post-poll violence perpetuated allegedly by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) activists in North-eastern State Tripura, where the BJP won in the recent Assembly elections.

Large number of leaders and workers of Left parties staged rasta-roko at Ambedkar Centre in Hanamkonda on Thursday and shouted slogans against BJP-RSS. The Left parties’ leaders accused the BJP leaders of instigating their cadre to vandalise the CPM offices and injuring the party workers soon after the announcement of the election result.

Speaking to the press on the occasion, CPM leaders G Prabhakar Reddy, N Ratnamala, T Uppalaiah and others alleged that the BJP workers have gone on a vandalism spree and CPM offices were attacked in State capital Agartala and other parts of Tripura. Tripura was known to be a peaceful State and it was turned into a battle ground since the announcement of poll results on March 3. The BJP leaders have forgotten that public had elected them to ensure their welfare not target them, they said.

CPM workers were attacked in broad daylight in an organised manner, they added. The CPM leaders also objected razing down a statue of Lenin at Belonia town in south Tripura by bulldozers and pulling down the statues of BR Ambedkar and Periar Ramasway in other parts of the country by BJP-RSS activists.

M Babu Rao of MCPI, Balaraj of CPI(ML), G Dayakar of CPI(ML-ND), K Shivaji of RSP, Ashok Stalin of CPI have appealed to all those who trust in democracy to censure the attacks on CPM workers and offices in Tripura.

The BJP leaders must understand that no political party would be in rule forever. Resorting to violence just because they were going to rule the State would lead to unrest in the State and it would be harmful for the public, the leaders noted. The leaders of different Left parties, M Kumaraswamy, S Babu, M Sagar, Godugu Venkat, Mahajana Sangham leader Mohiuddin, Aam Admi Party leader D Srikanth Yadav and others took part in the protest.
