Hyderabad: State government trimmed the Assembly schedule to end by March 27 making it the shortest budget session of State assembly since the formation of the Telangana in 2014. The session was cut short due to Governor E S L Narasimhan’s American visit. Earlier, it was proposed to hold the session till March 30.

The authorities said that the Governor is leaving for America on March 28 and that it is mandatory that the first citizen of the State give endorsement to the Appropriation bill on March 31 before the beginning of the new financial year. If failed, government will lose its right to draw money from the State exchequer for the public purpose.

Taking into consideration the Governor’s US tour, State government decided to end the budget session on March 27 by adopting the appropriation bill in the house. When the government put the proposal, to wind up the session on March 27 in the BAC (Business Advisory Committee) meeting, the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) opposed.

The ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) representatives told the members that the government is ready to continue the session even after the bill gets the Governor’s nod. The CLP leader K Jana Reddy said there is no use of conduct of the session and debate on the demands once the appropriation bill is adopted in the house.

As per the schedule finalised in the BAC meeting, Finance Minister Eatala Rajendar will present the budget 2018-19 proposals in the house on March 15. On the eve of Ugadi festival, holidays are declared from March 16 to 18. In view of the short budget session, the BAC also decided to hold session on Sunday on March 25 to complete the debate on the demands.

The total number of the working days this budget session are 13-days only. In 2017-18 budget session, the total number of working days were 16. In 2016 and 2015, the budget session was conducted for not less than 15-days.
