Hyderabad: In a bid to restore and retain the past glory of city’s iconic landmark, Moazzam Jahi Market, Municipal Administration and Urban Development principal secretary Arvind Kumar has announced his intention to adopt it.
He shared his idea on social network twitter and appealed to everyone to send in their suggestions at a mail ID he shared. He posted current pictures of Moazzam Jahi Market and called upon the general public to participate in this cause.
Aravind Kumar has taken the decision on the advice of MA&UD Minister KT Rama Rao for complete ‘heritage restoration’ of the MJ Market. He also set a time frame of three to four months and sought suggestions along with participation of the people from twin cities in this work.
Creating an email id mjmarket.restoration@gmail.com and asked people to write in their suggestions and be part of the ‘Team MJ Market Restoration’.
Dozens of people have started responding to the tweet in just a few hours and Minister K T Rama Rao also retweeted Kumar’s post. The minister in his reply stated that he was saving the current picture of the market so that he could juxtapose them with the images after the restoration.
This is for the first time that a senior IAS official has used twitter and asked people’s participation for the restoration of any iconic historical structure in Hyderabad.
Arvind Kumar also replied to some suggestions and stated that the MJ Market would be restored to its original colour, without artificial colours or paints. The century-old water taps too would be restored.
He also agreed to the suggestions to get in touch with the Aga Khan Foundation who were working on the restoration of the Qutb Shahi Tombs for advice.
He added that issues like water leakage and erection of banners and cables, that reportedly deprived the market of its beauty, were being attended to.
