Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) works in Old City are likely not be completed before 2019, but the works between Ameerpet and L B Nagar will be completed by July and the stretch between Ameerpet and Hitec city will be completed by October this year.

According to the authorities concerned, people travelling from L B Nagar to Hitec city can see their dream of hassle free journey becoming true by the end of this year. Currently, the Metro is chugging between a limited area however, the public response to the tech-based mode of transport had been tremendous. The Old City stretch may take some more time in this backdrop.

Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited Managing Director N V S Reddy said the department had completed the surveys and is waiting for the decision of the State government on whether to acquire 80 feet or 100 feet land. Once the decision on the area to be acquired is taken then the L&T will go for land acquisitions. He said it would at least take six months to acquire lands. Hence works are not likely to begin before 2019 in Old City.

He further added that with the increase in frequency, the numbers of commuters have gone up from 20,000 to 70,000 per day and if the LB Nagar and Hitec city are added more number are expected to travel. He said that works on LB Nagar stretch will be completed by July and works from Ameerpet to Hitec city will be completed by October.

The government is keen to take Metro Rail to Shamshabad from all sides and for taking up Metro Rail to Shamshabad from all sides surveys are going on and looking at possibilities to connect to Shamshabad, he said.

Explaining about the connectivity to the metro stations, HMRL MD said that once the policy is finalised they will deploy small vehicles, autos and buses in places for connectivity and talks will be held with Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) and other private companies.
