Hyderabad: Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister K T Rama Rao said that Telangana would be another focal point for green revolution in India by virtue of State government’s prestigious Rythu Bandhu scheme and irrigation projects.

The Minister was addressing a meeting at Telangana Bhavan here on Wednesday. Several Congress leaders from Warangal led by former municipal chairman Cherukupally Srinivas Reddy joined the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) at the meet. K T Rama Rao said that whatever Telangana was doing was becoming a trend in the country and the Rythu Bandhu scheme, to be started on May 10, would bring big change in the country where everyone would have to follow this scheme and it would become another revolution.

The Minister said that TRS government ensured 24-hour power supply to the farmers and all sections. Within six months, the government overcame the power problems. The Chief Minister himself is a farmer and he knows what is better for the farmers, he said. “Even in Rama Rajya the farmers had to offer cess but Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao is giving Rs 8,000 per acre as investment and now others will have to follow this,” Rama Rao added.

The Chief Minister is going with a commitment to irrigate one crore acres of land in the State through the irrigation project. “After completion of the irrigation projects and with the Rythu Bandhu scheme Telangana will become the focal point in the country in bringing another green revolution,” said Rama Rao.

The TRS leader lashed out at the Congress alleging that it had neglected the farmers during its rule. He said that the Congress did not think of providing irrigated water and neither thought of digging borewells. The farmers had to spend money on borewells resulting in 25 lakh borewells in the State.

“The Congress party leaders made farmers life miserable and behaved like vultures against the farmers but the TRS was giving the farmers cheques and becoming farmers friends (vallu Rythulaku chukkalu chupincharu... memu chekkulu istunnamu, vallu rythulaku rabandhulu ainaru... memu Rythu bandhuvulainamu),” said KTR. MP P Dayakar, Banda Prakash, MLA Vinay Bhaskar and others were also present.
