Hyderabad: The Mercure Hyderabad KCP Hotel topped the ‘Swachh Bharat-Hans Swachh Hotel Hunt’ awards held at Hotel Mercure here on Tuesday. The contest was to ensure cleanliness and hygiene apart from several other areas in various hotels in the city.

Principal Secretary (IT and Industries) Jayesh Ranjan, Director of Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) Dr Shankar and Editor of The Hans India Ramu Sarma conferred the awards to hoteliers.
The awards were given for several categories such as high level of cleanliness, hygiene and food safety and standards, food and nutrition, service, amenities and automation maintaining by various hotels.

Speaking on the occasion, Jayesh Ranjan appreciated The Hans India for coming up with an idea to identify Swachh Hotels as every hotel proclaimed them as the best hotel. “The Hans India is doing something good beyond their call of duty. We give awards to Hotels in many categories such as providing high luxury, but this is a category which relates to everyday use quite a lot. The maintenance of cleanliness, hygiene, and upkeep is very important.

We take it for granted; we assume that every hotel, by and large, maintain all aspects but to recognise it, one has to put extra efforts. I am very happy that these kinds of awards are introduced,” he said. Telangana had hosted several international events such as ‘Global Entrepreneurship Summit’ and every time we had to look for ‘good hotels’ and I would say hotels in Hyderabad had exceeded their limits in providing hospitality, the guests had appreciated your treatment, he said appreciating the hoteliers.

The award jury chief and Director of FSSAI Dr Shanker pointed out that they had considered many things into measure winners. “If the breadwinner of a family gets ill, the family would become handicapped, if the families become ill, the country will be handicapped, and thus health is very important aspect.

Health is wealth. We have visited all the nominated hotels; we verified their quality of food, cooking, kitchen, ingredients, and preservatives. It was impressive that the hotels are maintaining the standards. We have also noticed that the hotels are giving nutritious food,” he said. He added that all hotels were performing well, but some excelled in the grading system.

Pointing out that Hyderabad was the new destination for national and international tourists, The Hans India Editor Ramu Sarma said, “Hyderabad has evolved a lot. People have started moving out of their homes to celebrate. They have become aware and are technologically advanced. Customers have changed and so their preferences. To meet the growing demands whether for rooms or for ancillary services like food and catering becomes very important, and that is where we thought of coming with the idea of honouring top hotels and restaurants.” The idea was to project compliance of high level of cleanliness, hygiene, and sanitation, he added.
