Hyderabad : Controller for Legal Metrology Department Akun Sabharwal said that the department is going to set up laboratories for quality check in districts with an estimated cost of Rs. 5.75 crores.
Working Standard Laboratories each one costing Rs. 50 lakhs in old ten districts and one Research and Development Center in Legal Metrology Department Head Office at Hyderabad with an estimated cost of Rs. 75 lakhs will be established.
Regional Conference of Legal Metrology Department was organized in Warangal on Tuesday. In this conference officials from Warangal Rural, Warangal Urban, Jayashankar Bhoopalpally, Jangoan, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Sircilla, Jagitial, Adilabad, Mancherial, Asifabad, Nirmal, Khammam, Kothagudem participated. Controller inspected the land given by the government for building Laboratory at Desaipet in Warangal.
The Controller said that Legal Metrology Department is being strengthened to make assure that common people are deceived. In this process vehicles are purchased for 31 districts each with sticker of Legal Metrology Department shown specifically.
On the request of Legal Metrology Department Telangana government came forward and allotted required land in Adilabad, Warangal, Karimnagar, Rangareddy, Khammam, Mahaboobnagar, Nalgonda districts. Soon in Nizamabad and Medak districts land will be allotted for building laboratories.

Consumer Redressal Center and Legal Metrology Department will redress the complaints by cooperating with each other. Consumers can also lodge their complaints at Telangana State Consumer Help Line Service 180042500333.
In the recent times department has responded very quickly to the complaints received. Special raids were conducted at Seeds, Fertilizer, Multiplexes, Shopping Malls, Weigh Bridges, Branded Company godowns. 1092 cases were booked and Rs. 22 crores worth goods were seized.
Several complaints on Electronic weighing machines at ration shop, mainly malpractices in petrol bunks were reported. Controller ordered Legal Metrology officials to focus more on these issues.
