Warangal: His love for flying an aircraft began since his schooldays. Although he made every effort to make his dream a reality, things did not fall in place due to various reasons. However, he found a new way to nurture his dreams and took to aeromodelling. Now, all eyes are on 27-year-old Dussa Dilip who has already proved his mettle by assembling nearly 50 radio-controlled (RC) aircrafts in different models.
Dilip, a Commerce graduate, uses his two-room house at Ursu in Warangal as his workshop which has turned into an assortment of electronic apparatus, wiring tools and complex custom-made instruments. Adorning the walls are his model planes. During his schooling, he was an NCC cadet of Junior Division and when he pursued Intermediate in LB College, again, apparently driven by his passion to become a pilot, he chose to be a cadet of NCC Air Squadron.
After Intermediate, he attempted National Defence Academy entrance exam twice but failed to fulfil his dream. Later, financial problems forced him to work as a part-time driver, which he still does. Amid all this, he finished his B Com. His urge for flying drove him to focus on radio-controlled (RC) aircraft models. He browsed internet extensively and got himself acquaintance with the algorithm of RC aircrafts.
Relying on his earnings, he started to procure electronic instruments for assembling RC aircraft. So far, he has made nearly 50 RC aircrafts in different models and enriched himself with the technology. Recently, his team won the second prize, which carried a cash prize of Rs 25,000, at the Technoxian Championship’18 in the category of RC Craft Challenge in Delhi. The other members of his team are Sairaj Dussa and Raj Aryan.
Speaking to The Hans India, Dilip said, “Without required finances, it’s difficult to fathom the depths of RC aircraft technology. We can put up very high standards of work but the making of aircrafts involves exceptional component costs which I cannot afford.”
As of now, Dilip is trying to make a 3-D Mapping RC Aircraft that can fly for about an hour. It requires around Rs 1 lakh to procure flight controller, GPS, telemetry, optical view and airflow sensors. This apart, he also has plans to make Agriculture Spraying Drone that can spray fertilisers and pests in over an acre in 10 minutes.
“I am trying to make do with what I earn through my part-time job as a driver and tutor, Dilip said, referring to the making of his RC aircrafts. It may be noted here that Dilip trains quite a few people, especially students, in making of RC aircrafts.
“I have three modules – beginner planes, intermediate planes and 3-D planes – for those willing to learn the aeromodelling,” Dilip said. Dilip, who is confident of doing wonders, said he would be very happy if he got any assistance from the government or any other organisation.
