Hyderabad: Lands owned by the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) owned would be developed as commercial centres in near future to get more revenue, Transport Minister P Mahender Reddy said on Monday.

Mahender Reddy said soon steps would be taken up to construct commercial buildings and provide employment to youth. He toured Chandrayangutta area and launched Bandlaguda RTC office named after late Salauddin Owaisi as ‘Salar-e-Millat’ along with MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi and officials.

Speaking on the occasion, he recalled the services of Salauddin. The Minister said that RTC would be connected with the Metro Rail, MMTS and provide mini buses to the places of public demand for transportation. RTC buses in the city, including the old city, would get Urdu nameplates enabling Muslim commuters to find it easy to board them, he said.

“Telangana is number one in the country to reduce accidents,” he claimed. The Minister called upon the people to cooperate with the officials to develop Telangana as a State without accidents. He advised the public to follow traffic norms and avoid rash and drunken driving to avoid fatal accidents.

He said that 95 lakh people in Telangana including 35 lakh in Hyderabad took the TSRTC buses every day. Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao allotted Rs 1,000 crore in the budget to strengthen the RTC and gave Rs 66 crore for basic facilities and infrastructure. “We bought 360 mini buses and Vajra buses are performing well,” he said.

To ease traffic problems in the city, Chandrashekar Rao had allotted Rs 26,000 crore and construction of flyovers and bridges on Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy outskirts were going on, he said adding that bus terminals were set up in eight places through Rs 81.52 lakh JNNURM scheme.
