Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari on Saturday said that the Constitution written by Dr B R Ambedkar had given power to the weaker sections. Addressing the third annual national meeting of Andhra Bank Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Employees Welfare Association at RTC Kalyana Mandap here, Srihari the statehood for Telangana had been granted because of the provisions in the Constitution.

He took a dig at the Centre for failing to prevent atrocities on the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes across the country. Srihari was critical of the bankers for denying loans to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. Fraudsters like Vijay Mallya and Nirav Modi and others were allowed to loot people’s money to the tune of lakhs of rupees.

But, the bankers are denying small loans to the people belonging to the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. The people belonging to the weaker section are unable to secure even Rs 10,000 loan, he regretted. He called upon the Bankers Association to focus their attention on the issue and help the poor secure timely financial assistance.

The Dalits sought ordinance on Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Prevention of Atrocities Act, he said and added that the State government supported it. The National Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Commission too support it. Due to negligent attitude of the bankers the welfare schemes are not reaching Dalits and Scheduled Tribes, he said.

Six decades of protracted struggle had succeeded in securing statehood for Telangana. Srihari further said that the Article 3 in the Constitution, written by Dr Ambedkar, had paved the way for the formation of the Telangana State.

He also stated that Telangana State is moving towards progress at fast pace on the growth trajectory and Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao is emulating the ideals and the path shown by Ambedkar and launched a large number of Gurukul institutions in the State.

On one hand the Dalits are growing and developing to some extent and on other hand atrocities are continuing unabated against them, he regretted. This was due to diluting the SC, ST Atrocities Act.
