Hyderabad: The Telangana government has decided to give relaxations in KCR Kits scheme to Chenchu, Kolam (including Mannevarlu), Thoti and Kondareddy tribes, considered as Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs). This scheme would be applicable to women of these tribal communities from ITDA Bhadrachalam, Utnoor and Mannanur areas beyond second child.

Principal Secretary A Santhi Kumari issued a Government Order to this effect on Thursday. It may be noted that Commissioner of Tribal Welfare has requested the government to extend KCR Kits scheme to these four groups as their population is already dwindling.

The Commissioner urged the government to consider relaxing existing norms in order to conserve their genepool and thereby culture as a critical mass of population is required for preservation and promotion of their culture and tradition.

She produced data from Samagra Kutumba Survey (SKS) that showed the total population of these tribes just over 90,000 while women population is close to 45,000.
