Medak:   Parents of an engineering college student, who went missing since 2006, charge the Uppal police with not responding on their complaint and seek Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s intervention to trace whereabouts of their son.

They allege that their son was kidnapped and accuse the police of not swinging into action even if they are supplied with material evidence. In turn, the parents allege, the police are threatening them. Sitaramulu (19), son of Nerella Komaraiah and Lakshmi of Kalwakunta village of Nizampet mandal in Medak district, disappeared since February 7, 2006 from his hostel in Uppal on the outskirts of Hyderabad. He was the second year student of the polytechnic college.

He went out on February 7, 2006 on the pretext of meeting a student, but did not return home since then. Something fishy as the parents did not receive any phone call for over a month, they made enquiries at various places, including the hostel, and were shocked to know that there had not attended the hostel for over 30 days.  At last, the parents lodged a complaint (229/2006) with the police.

However, Seetaramulu was spotted along with his friend Balaraju, who also hails from the same village, at a dhobhi shop in East Maredpaly after three months of his disappearance.  The dhobhi, Narayana, alerted the parents about the issue. The parents sought help of the Kalwakunta village sarpanch, who convened a meeting with the village elders and enquired Balaraju at the village square about the disappearance. Balaraju promised to bring Sitaramulu to the village in 10 days, but there was no news about them so far.

The matter was taken to the notice of the Nizamabad Range DIG, Uppal Police station, Cyberabad police, but of no use. Similarly, it was taken to the notice of the then CM Dr YS Rajasekhar Reddy and Home Minister Sabita Indra Reddy. Also, the matter was taken to the notice of the Human Rights Commission. The parents are urging the police to retrieve the call data of mobile phone of their son to unearth the facts and hand him over to the court in flesh and blood.
