Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao launched the ‘Kanti Velugu’ scheme in Malkapur village in Tupran mandal along with Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao, MP Keshava Rao and others on Wednesday.
Launching the prestigious eyecare scheme of the government, Chandrashekar Rao said it was exceptional and first-of-its-kind in the country being launched by the Telangana government to provide complete eyecare services free of cost to 3.70 crore people in the State.
The Chief Minister gave away spectacle sets to a few persons on the occasion. Later, addressing a public meeting, Chandrashekar Rao has announced that the people, irrespective of their economic conditions in the State, need not spend a single rupee to get eye treatment as the government would bear all the expenses.
The State government would sanction Rs 6 crore for development of the village and provide double-bedroom housing facility to all eligible people, he said. Chandrashekar Rao also asked the officials concerned to complete the development works on war-footing and vowed to get back to the village to inaugurate the housing units. This kind of effort had never been made so far in the history of the country and the youngest State had taken such a big task to provide eyecare services to all its people, the Chief Minister said.
“We have already purchased 40 lakhs of spectacle sets to be distributed among the people and will conduct operations for needed people for better eyesight,” he noted. “Every village will get an eye camp to provide eyeglasses, medicines and operations. We have appointed 825 medical teams for the purpose and everyone should make use of this programme,” he said. “I personally distributed goggle sets to a few persons and everyone will get tested for eyesight,” he said and praised the village and appealed to people to shun differences, avoid religion, caste feelings and gender bias.
“There is no need to belittle women who are second to none,” he said and added that Deputy Speaker Padma Devender Reddy, ZP Chairperson, several IAS officers including Shanthi Kumari, Vakati Karuna and others were all women for playing key roles at their level. Of course, there were some men who remained hopeless all the time, he pointed out. He also called upon the people to keep away from liquor and related issues.
