More rains predicted for next two days in Telangana

Hyderabad: Telangana state has been experiencing widespread light to extremely heavy rains under the influence of active south west monsoon for last 24 hours. The state has been put on alert in view of heavy rains in the next two days predicted by Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).
Ichodda in Adilabad district recorded the highest rainfall of 21 cm followed by Bazarhatnoor and Sonala in the same district on Thursday. Old Adilabad, Nizamabad and parts of Warangal and Karimnagar district bore the brunt of the heavy rains bringing the normal life to a grinding halt in the rain-hit areas.
Greater Hyderabad, which registered deficit rainfall this monsoon, received light rains only. Many parts of the city witnessed day-long drizzling. The state government alerted and taking measures for relief and rehabilitation in the low-lying areas.
With the heavy inflows from local rivulets and upper riparian areas, Krishna and Godavari rivers are brimming. Water levels in Jurala project, the entry of Krishna river in Telangana, has been reported full with its total installed capacity of nearly 10 tmc ft of water. The inflows in the project are 86,000 cusecs and the outflows are 74,000 cusecs. Srisailam reservoir was also receiving heavy inflows. The water levels in the reservoir reached 873 feet as against the total installed capacity of 885 ft.
Inflows in the Srisailam reservoir has been reported at 1.19 lakh cusecs and the outflows are 55,000 cusecs. In Godavari basin, Sripada Yellampally project, Singur, Nizam Sagar and Lower Manair dam were receiving heavy inflows with the incessant rains in the catchments areas in the last 24 hours. Officials said that water levels in the reservoirs in Krishna and Godavari basins are reaching optimum level giving a relief to the farmers busy with kharif season.
The Meteorological department predicted extremely heavy rainfall is likely to occur in parts of Nirmal and Jagtial and very heavy rains in Nizamabad and Kamareddy districts. Heavy rains are likely to occur in Peddapalli and parts of Karimnagar, Medak and Sanga Reddy districts. Moderate and light rains are likely to occur in the rest of the state in the next 24 hours.
Meanwhile, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao on Thursday instructed the state official machinery, to be alert and vigilant in view of heavy rains in the next two days predicted by Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) in the state.
Reviewing the flood situation in the heavy rain-hit Adilabad and other districts with the top officials, the Chief Minister said asked the Special Officers to monitor flood situation in the districts and take up relief and rehabilitation works in coordination with the local officers.
The CM asked Chief Secretary SK Joshi to appoint a senior official in the Secretariat to review flood situation round-the-clock. He wanted that efforts have to be made and steps to be taken in such a way that no inconvenience to be caused to people as there is a possibility that the river lets, and streams will over flow due to heavy inflows.
