Hyderabad: Heavy rains lashed Telangana registering the highest rainfall in the current monsoon season in the state on Monday. Normal life was thrown out of gear in many parts of the state with the incessant rains in all the districts for the last 24 hours. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted that the state will experience incessant rains in the next 24 hours. The silver lining is that no human loss was reported from the rain ravaged districts.
The heavy flow of flood waters into the rivulets and local water bodies resulted in many remote villages being cut off from other areas and coal production was hit in Ramagundam coal-belt area. Sirpur in Kumaram Bheem Asifabad district has been reported the highest rainfall of 10 cm, followed by Magidi – 9.6 cm and Chimanpalle – 9-5 cm in Nizamabad district and Nerella in Jagtial district received 9.3 cm rainfall.
Khammam, Kothagudem Bhadradri, Bhupalpally, Jagtial, Asifabad, Nizamabad and Adilabad districts were receiving very heavy rains. The other districts witnessed light to heavy rains. The IMD predicted that very heavy rains are likely to occur in Khammam, Bhadradri –Kothagudem, Mahbubabad, Suryapet and Medak districts and heavy rains will happen in Kamareddy, Sangareddy, Hyderabad, Warangal, Jangaon and Nalgonda district and the rest of the districts will get light to moderate rains in the next 24 hours.
Rivulets were in spate in the villages along Godavari basin with heavy inflows. Kalluru Vagu in Khammam district and Sunkena, Sarvapeta and Teega rivulets were brimming with flood waters. Suddala and Gollapally vagu in Mancherial were also in the spate. According to officials, road network was damaged in many tribal villages in the Bhupalpally and Bhadradri khammam districts. In Suryapet district, several low-lying areas in Kodad municipality were submerged with heavy floods waters. People alleged illegal constructions beside the rivulet was the main cause for submergence.
The district authorities are visiting the heavy rain affected villages and ascertaining the people’s safety round-the- clock. Disaster response teams were also deployed in the heavy rain-hit districts to tackle the flood situation. Heavy inflows in Krishna and Godavari basins were continuing. Water levels in Jurala project reached to the full capacity of 1,045 feet.
Water levels in Srisailam has been reported at 882 feet out of 885 feet capacity and in Nagarjunasagar it was 542 feet out of the total installed capacity of 590 feet. In Godavari basin, water levels in Sripada Yellampally project, Singur and Sriramsagar are reaching to optimum levels.
