Mancherial: Doctors of Sri Mahalakshmi Children Hospital here on Thursday claimed to have saved the life of a premature infant (girl) born to a local housewife Sonam, who weighed 700 gm.

Dr Motapalukula Kumar Varma told press persons here on Thursday that Sonam delivered the baby girl after six months and the newborn was brought in a serious condition at around 1am to the hospital by the parents.

Doctors and the staff had struggled for four hours to save the baby. After treating the infant for 93 days with the help of ventilator, baby’s weight was increased to 2.1 kg and the baby was totally recovered.

Dr Kumar Varma said such surgeries could be done in big cities like Hyderabad and Bengaluru. “When I was a studying medicine in Hyderabad, I have seen a few survivors of such children.

This type of treatment cost from Rs 30 to Rs 40 lakh,” he said. But we succeeded in giving a new lease of life to the girl, that too at a very low cost, the doctor stated.

Hospital Administrator Ashwin Varma said the hospital is ready provide medical treatment to all, without caring for caring for the patient’s financial status.
