Hyderabad: Appointment of secretaries to the All India Congress Committee (AICC) from Telangana led to a new row in the State unit of the party as leaders alleged that justice was not meted out to northern part. Miffed by the appointment of a leader from Mahbubnagar district as Secretary of AICC recently, Adilabad Congress leader A Maheswar Reddy resigned as the convener of Bus Yatra Committee.
Several other leaders were also not happy with the appointments and filed complaints with the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) leaders. According to sources, the TPCC is trying to cajole the disgruntled leaders.
Recently the high command appointed MLA Vamshi Chand Reddy of Mahbubnagar district as Secretary of AICC. Earlier, another MLA from the district S A Sampath Kumar was also appointed as secretary of AICC. Senior leader of Congress S Jaipal Reddy who also hails from Mahbubnagar district was appointed as national official spokesperson of Congress.
Already, MLA G Chinna Reddy and leader of Mahbubnagar district was holding the post of AICC secretary. With this four AICC posts have gone to Mahbubnagar district leaving leaders of other districts in distress. Apart from them, V Hanumantha Rao and Madhu Yashki are other leaders from Telangana who have posts in AICC executive. The AICC has not considered the names of any senior leader from other districts for national executive.
A leader of the party said that senior leaders of Telangana have missed posts in the Core, Manifesto and Publicity Committees of AICC. Their names were not considered for Working Committee also. Recent appointments have put the party out of balance. Leaders of the party, particularly those from north Telangana districts are sore at the leadership for not considering their names for the AICC executive. They have been alleging that the TPCC failed to recommend and get acceptance for them. These leaders are not sure of getting any post in the TPCC committees also.
Few leaders have alleged that the party is biased towards Mahbubnagar and Nalgonda districts. Both the TPCC president and leader of opposition belong to Nalgonda district. A senior leader said that several young leaders have been working vigorously for the party and spending money and time in the party work for the past four and half years with a hope of getting a good post in AICC and TPCC executives.
