Saroornagar: The supply of drinking water through tap connections under the ambitious Mission Bhagiratha scheme is likely to be delayed further due to slow progress of work including the construction of overhead tanks in the rural areas.

Though, GHMC officials had announced that they would provide tap connections to each and every household and supply drinking water by ensuing Dasara and Diwali festivals, in reality it remains a distant dream with the pace of work being abysmally slow.

Local corporator Anitha said, “Master Balancing Reservoir construction work started in 2014 and the work was stopped three months ago. Locals are facing problem by water supply provided alternates days in a week.” She further added, “The budget of Rs 338 crore provided for the MBR in city. Rs 12 crore was being used for MBR at Saroornagar which has the capacity of 18 million litres, 1,600 mm diameter pipelines are being used for the project and the contractor is not turning up to complete the project and the works will get delay till we get a new contractor.”

She also added that, “Singareni Colony, Tapovan Colony and Green Park Colony and few other colonies will be supplied water through this reservoir. For this colony the water supply is given from Vanasthalipuram water tanks”.

Singareni Colony locals said, “The work has been stopped for the past three months, due to shortage of water we are ordering water tankers once in four days to fulfil the basic needs.” Another Resident Shiva said, “We even complained to the corporator and asked her to arrange water tanks alternate days.”
