Choppadandi (Karimnagar): Up against a powerful community, Choppadandi (SC) sitting TRS legislator Bodiga Shobha faces an upheaval task to retain her ticket for the ensuing elections. It may be mentioned here that TRS chief K Chandrashekar Rao didn’t include Shobha’s name in the first list of candidates announced on October 6, soon after dissolving the Telangana Assembly.

Albeit Shobha’s performance is not all that bad, KCR put her candidature on hold following her haughty approach that didn’t gone down well with some local leaders, especially a dominant caste, it’s said.

Even though Shobha slipped from a commanding performance of 79.40% in the first survey to 62.50% and then to 60.8% in the subsequent surveys conducted by KCR, her functioning is said to be far better than many other sitting MLAs. However, what that cost her ticket was her flamboyance and failure to get going with the other leaders, it’s said.

She reportedly behaved harshly with Market committee chairman Gaddam Sumalatha Reddy’s husband Chokka Reddy at an inaugural function in the presence of Minister Eatala Rajender and Lok Sabha member B Vinod Kumar.

It’s also learnt that District Grandhalaya Samstha chairman Enugu Ravinder Reddy is also not in good terms with Shobha. Speaking to The Hans India, Shobha said: “I am confident that KCR sir will repose faith in me and give ticket. It’s because of KCR I served as ZPTC and MLA. I am waiting for his call.”

With the party yet to decide the candidature, a long list of aspirants swung into action moving their pieces cleverly to seize the opportunity. Among those strong contenders is Gurram Padma Reddy’s daughter-in-law Sandhya Rani. Padma Reddy, who runs an orphanage, Sahaya, had actively participated in Telangana Movement and faced several cases pertaining to statehood agitation.

In a bid to get Choppadandi ticket to her daughter-in-law, Padma Reddy has approached Karimnagar MP B Vinod Kumar to take it the notice of KCR. It may be noted here that Sandhya, who belongs to Scheduled Caste community, is an orphan and had married to Padma Reddy’s son.

Padma Reddy said: “My daughter-in-law Sandhya has the advantage of commanding votes from both the communities – SC and Reddys. In a couple of days, I am going to meet KCR sir and seek his blessings for Sandhya.”

The other prominent contenders, who are in race for ticket, are TRS SC Cell leader Sunke Ravishankar, Telangana cultural artist Vollala Vani, who received Praja Gayani award from the State government and former RDO B Padmaiah.
