Hyderabad: Telangana Congress senior leader Vijayashanti on Monday announced that she will not contest in the forthcoming Assembly elections in Telangana. Earlier, strong speculations were doing rounds that the actor-turned-politician was planning to contest from one of the Assembly constituencies in TRS Chief K Chandrashekar’s Rao native district of Medak.

Speaking to newspersons at Gandhi Bhavan on Monday, she said she was still oblivious to the reasons behind her showing the door from TRS soon after the then Congress-led UPA announced the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh. She opined that her growing popularity in TRS and her threat to KTR and Kavitha’s political growth could be the main reasons for her expulsion from the party.

Vijayashanti ridiculed TRS chief KCR’s statement that the formation of Telangana was the result of his struggle. “It was KCR who fell on the feet of AICC leader Sonia Gandhi and made the promise that his party will be merged with Congress once the Telangana was created.

After the bifurcation, KCR took a u-turn on his promise,” Vijayashanti added, informing that she was preparing the schedule to launch an aggressive poll campaign covering 430 mandals soon.
