Nanakramguda: Besides the dogs and bovines that come onto the centre of road causing inconvenience to the speeding vehicles, now it is sounder of swine (pig family) that are the cause of accidents on Outer Ring Road (ORR) near Nankramguda Financial District.

The commuters are in deep trouble as herd of pigs come onto the roads during night time leading to accidents. The wild animals seem to gather near the Garbage Transfer Station located beside the ORR. Tonnes of garbage from Gachibowli, Nanakramguda, Khajaguda and Kondapur is collected and stored at the Garbage Transfer Station. There are close to 100 huts and a number of sanitation workers live in close vicinity. There is so much garbage that it has become the favourite hunting ground for pigs. A Narendar, who works at Shamshabad airport and resides in Nanakramguda, said, “The stench is unbearable, I have noticed several accidents as pigs come on the road and are unable to negotiate the speeding vehicles.

For many years now, a portion of the ORR land and a small lake opposite to Fakhruddin hills was under encroachment by land sharks. They collect rent from the sanitation workers against the temporary shelter provided on the encroached land. A sanitation worker said that the land brokers collect money for even providing drinking water and electricity. “We are living here because we have no house and as the place is near to the working site. We cannot maintain the land,” he added.

Moreover, the stench emanating from the stored garbage is causing inconvenience to the residents of Khajaguda, Lanco Hills and Nanakramguda and they are prone to deadly diseases with the mosquito bite. But, even after several complaints from the residents, the HMDA has not yet given a single attempt to clear the menace and the officials care a damn about its maintenance.
