No enhancement of assembly seats in Telangana, AP: centre

The centre on Wednesday made it clear that there will be no enhancement in the number of assembly seats in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

The chief ministers of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana has appealed to centre to enhance the assembly seats in both the states as prescribed in the Andhra Pradesh reorganisation act - 2014. The Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu urged the centre to increase the seats from 175 to 225 whereas Telangana CM K Chandrasekhar Rao requested the enhance it from 119 to 153 in Telangana.

Rejecting the appeal, the centre stated that the assembly seats will be enhanced only after calculation of population in 2026 according to the article 170 (3) in the constitution.
