Hyderabad: The Election Commission of India has worked out the charges on the bullet-proof vehicles used by political leaders during the recent Assembly elections. The Commission had decided that while the political functionaries provided with bullet resistant cars on security considerations might continue to use the bullet-proof vehicles during the period of operation of Model Code of Conduct.
The ECI said the cost of propulsion of such vehicles should be borne by the person concerned when it was used for non-official purposes during such period. In case of the political functionaries who are star campaigners sponsored by political parties, the expenditure in this regard will be accounted for in the party’s account.
In view of the above instructions, the details of journey made during enforcement of Model Code Conduct (MCC) in the State from September 6 to December 7, 2018 by the political functionaries of Telangana State in BR(Bullet Resistant) cars provided to them have been recorded in a diary maintained by the driver of each vehicle and the propulsion charges have been calculated.
The amount towards propulsion charges to be paid by 33 political functionaries provided Bullet Resistance Vehicles is worked out based on the mileage covered.
The functionaries include leaders of TRS party K Chandrasekhar Rao, P Madhusudhan Chary and other ex- Ministers; Congress party leaders including K Jana Reddy, BJP leader G Kishan Reddy; MIM leader Akbaruddin Owaisi and others.
Amount claimed ranges from Rs 53, 000 (E Dayakar Rao) to Rs 7. 7 lakh (P Mahender Reddy, ex- Minister) depending on kilometres covered during campaign.
Accordingly, letters have been addressed to all the above political functionaries and also to the party offices in case of star campaigners for payment of propulsion charges in the Government head of account.
