NALSAR all set to unveil NextGen courses

Hyderabad: The NALSAR University of Law in Hyderabad has joined the league of the premier institutions with the starting of next generation courses in security, defence, space and telecommunication laws.According to NALSAR officials, the university is launching a two-year postgraduate and one-year postgraduate diploma courses for the first time in the country.

There are courses in defence studies and telecommunications. But it is for the first time a course is launched by a university, combining various aspects of both the domain knowledge and its interface with the international and domestic legal frameworks to train people for global demand.Speaking to the Hans India, NALSAR University Registrar and Professor of Law V Balakista Reddy said the two-year security and defence laws are unique. 

The recent move of liberalisation and privatisation of the defence industry demanded skilled persons to deal with defence contracts and tenders, defence procurement policies space and maritime security, cyber security an national defence, defence technology and applications, battlefield transparency combat systems and future combat systems, rocket and missile systems, intellectual property rights in defence technology and a host of other things will be the part of the new course, he said. 

Sensing the gap in the existing courses taught in the country and elsewhere, he said, "We have decided to offer the course through our Centre for Aerospace and Defence Laws."
Adding, the main target group for the course are members of the armed forces, policymakers defence public sector undertakings, negotiators and diplomats who represent the country in the negotiation for various defence procurements, aerospace engineers and students pursuing aerospace engineering and law graduate desiring to specialise in defence and security laws.  

Further, increasing usage of the emerging technologies in the aerospace and defence sectors are posing several legal issues. Hence, the course going to be launched on space and telecommunication laws and GIS and Remote Sensing Laws (RSL) will equip students on the domestic and international policy and legal frameworks and treaties on the issues like strategic air and outer space, protection of intellectual property rights and copyrights in outer space.

Besides, the new courses will also provide the necessary skill sets on the environmental laws and regulations relating to the outer space, in the usage of various kinds of arms and defence technologies, he added.
