Warangal: Efforts are on to improve facilities at the 1,000-bed MGM Hospital, Warangal Urban District Collector Prashanth Jeevan Patil said. Speaking at the MGM Hospital Development Society meeting that was held after a gap of three years here on Tuesday, he said that providing quality treatment facilities to poor is government’s main agenda. “The shortcomings in the hospital would be addressed properly by taking them to the notice of the Government,” Patil said, referring to the staff crunch and inadequate infrastructural facilities.

In the first place, we will procure equipment that urgently needed besides taking up the repair works of some instruments with Rs 41 lakh available with the society. An exclusive electricity sub-station will be set up to tackle the power shutdowns, he said. Efforts are also on to speed up the setting up of Level-2 trauma care centre, which is helpful to paralysis patients, in the MGM, he added. He said that government has sanctioned Rs 2.57 crore for setting up of 20-bed special ICU.

“The number of outpatients has increased exponentially. So was in-patients,” Patil said. The MGM Hospital which recorded 5.75 lakh outpatients in 2014, treated 11.24 lakh patients in 2018. This indicates that people have faith in the state-run hospitals,” Patil said.

Warangal West MLA D Vinay Bhaskar assured to provide Rs 25 lakh from his local area development (LAD) funds to procure an ambulance with ventilator facility. Warangal East MLA Nannapuneni Narender also came forward to provide Rs 1 crore from his LAD funds for the development of MGM hospital. Both the MLAs assured that they would work for the development of the MGM hospital by pursuing the government for more funds.

Zilla Parishad chairperson G Padma, MGM superintendent Dr B Srinivasa Rao, Kakatiya Medical College principal Dr Sandhya, members P Vijachander Reddy, EV Srinivas and Parashuramulu among others were present.
