Hyderabad: The Telangana State government has decided to renovate all the historical clock towers in Greater Hyderabad to restore them to their former glory. There are 12 hundred-year-old clock towers in the city. As part of this initiative, GHMC has revived clock towers at Mahboob Chowk, Moazamjahi Market and Secunderabad recently. Thanks to the efforts of the GHMC, the heritage clock towers are adding beauty to the modern architecture of the city.

Calling for necessary measures to initiate the revival of remaining eight clock towers, Principal Secretary, Municipal Administration & Urban Development (MA&UD), Aravind Kumar, along with GHMC engineering and town planning officials, visited the clock towers at Shalibanda, Sultan Bazar and Monda Market and inspected the areas on Wednesday.

After inspecting the Shalibanda Clock Tower, he instructed the officials to take measures to repair and maintain the clocks in the tower. During his visit, he observed that the front portion of land facing the main road was encroached. He instructed officials to send proposals for construction of compound wall as well as repair and maintenance of the clock. He also instructed officials to see that branches of nearby trees were cut to ensure clear visibility of the clock.

Later, he visited clock towers at Sultan Bazar and Monda Market. He suggested to officials to renovate Old Assembly Hall located at Sultan Bazar. During his visit to Monda Market, he ordered officials to take measures to send the clock for repairs. He visited nearby Jail Khana and advised officials to conduct a meeting with local businessmen for its renovation.
